According to the results of the latest employer branding survey on work expectations and employer reputation, conducted by the employer branding agency Instar, Tallink Hotels is among the most attractive employers in Estonia for vocational school students. Out of 263 companies ranked, Tallink Hotels achieved a high 5th place and was awarded the attractive employer quality label for the first time.
Ave Svarts, a member of Tallink Hotels’ board, commented on the recognition: “We have worked hard with our hotel team leaders to ensure that our young colleagues and interns have a positive experience in our establishments, making them want to come to work and stay. Focusing on nurturing future talent is a priority – we invite school students to get to know hotel and restaurant work, organize annual spring tours, and happily welcome school groups at other times as well. We firmly believe that the best experience is gained in a team where the atmosphere is pleasant and employees support each other – people need to feel good at work. It’s a great joy that this is now being recognized externally, and that vocational school students hold us in such high regard – among them are surely many of our future colleagues.”
In addition to organizing tours for school groups, Tallink Group’s HR team actively participates in job and career fairs, as well as visiting vocational schools across Estonia to introduce young people to internship and job opportunities both on land and at sea. In the past academic year, nearly 140 students completed internships with Tallink, both onshore and at sea.
Anne Kuzmitski, the reception manager at Tallink Spa & Conference and Tallink Express Hotel, who interacts with interns daily, emphasizes the importance of ensuring that each new employee and intern feels supported and valued as a member of the team. “We are always happy to help and teach interns and new colleagues. Involving young people in the team brings fresh perspectives and new ideas, which helps us continually grow and keep up with the times. It is also a great opportunity to train a specialist who has received the best possible education and understands our company’s values and work processes,” said Anne.
Gerli Tuurmann, the head of Tallink Hotels’ restaurants and conference center, who also supervises interns, added that working in a hotel has a unique charm that has captivated her throughout her life. “There are so many different nuances and specialties in a hotel, like a small world within a larger world. It’s never boring here, and you gain a wealth of practical skills. Involving interns is important to us because it allows us to introduce the field through real work experience and helps us gain new skilled colleagues,” Gerli described.
