Extensive renovation works have begun at the Tallink Express Hotel located in the Tallinn port area, during which all 165 hotel rooms will be refurbished and common areas given a fresh look. The well-preserved furniture previously used in the hotel has found a new life in children’s and youth care institutions across Estonia.

“When planning the renovation of Tallink Express Hotel, we wanted from the start to find a new purpose for the furniture in good condition in places where there is a clear need for it. With the help of the Estonian Association of Child and Youth Welfare Institutions, we reached institutions and families where the well-maintained couches, desks, chairs, and nightstands from Tallink Express Hotel were very welcome,” said Ave Svarts, Member of the Management Board of Tallink Hotels. “As a hotel chain with the Green Key eco-label, we follow an environmentally friendly approach both in daily operations and during renovations. Giving hotel furniture a second life is one of many activities in this direction,” Svarts added.

“We were furnishing several institutions in Valga for children without parental care, people with disabilities, and others in need when we received information about Tallink’s furniture donation. Most of the beds, nightstands, and armchairs are already in their new homes, and several care institutions are still being furnished. Thanks to the donated furniture, we can offer better conditions for those in need and focus on our core activity – providing care services – instead of buying necessary furnishings,” said Ingrid Sinikas, Member of the Board of MTÜ Valga Abikeskus.

In addition to care institutions in the Valga region, furniture items also reached institutions in Ida- and Lääne-Viru County, Tartu, Viljandi, Haapsalu, Tallinn, Lääne-Harju municipality, Hiiumaa, as well as SOS Children’s Village homes and the Reuse Centre.

After the renovation, Tallink Express Hotel will become a modern and welcoming environment that meets the expectations of today’s travelers and offers, among other things, a wide range of self-service options. This includes contactless check-in and other smart solutions for using services.

Tallink Express Hotel was closed for renovation on November 3 and will reopen to guests in May 2026.
